I’ve taken a lot of shots looking down over Oak Ridge, but on most of them, this solitary Napoleon in the foreground was the only artillery piece. Now the gang’s all here. There aren’t too many places in Gettysburg that escape visitors’ attention as prime photography spots (if there are any at all) but Oak Ridge may get the short end of the stick in that regard. Also, check out the wooden fence and the simplicity of the scene.

If you’re a history or geology buff / nerd in any way, shape or form, you’ll probably find yourself wondering when every single one of these cracks was formed in this Gettysburg boulder, and will probably be fascinated just thinking about all that molten rock rising above the earth's surface in prehistoric days. This particular boulder is located at Devil’s Den, and the picture has some interesting photo bombers . . . the Witness Tree at top left, and Little Round Top’s “castle” monument at center right.

The colors of autumn in Gettysburg are offset so perfectly by wooden fences and stone walls and blue skies, and of course by the occasional Napoleon, Ordnance Rifle, and Parrott Rifle here and there. This Napoleon belongs to Battery B., 4TH U. S. Artillery, and is located just behind the recently-renovated Lee’s Headquarters complex. It was returned to its original position in 2016. This is such a peaceful scene that I can imagine just camping out here beside the cannon, painting, sketching, or photographing your surroundings until the chill of autumn chases you indoors. I don’t believe there’s any season in which Gettysburg doesn’t show off her beauty.

Pvt. Noyes enlisted in September 1862 and was a farmer. He was wounded by a shell on the 3RD of July, and lingered in the Camp Letterman hospital for more than a month. I was unable to find much information on his life, and nothing on his burial.
