Of all the barn windows I’ve seen in Gettysburg, these are some of my favorites. They belong to the Daniel Lady barn on Hanover Road just outside of town, constructed c. 1842. I especially like the top window with its “rising sun” motif. What could we see through these windows if we had the opportunity to climb that high? The farm is open to visitors at select times, but for much of the time visitors have to use their imaginations.

SGT. ANDREW JACKSON HAMES
Born January 04, 1830 --- Died July 05, 1863 at age 33

Co. H, 15TH South Carolina Infantry

Sgt. Hames was married to Margaret and together they had three daughters, Sarah born  1854, Mary Susan born 1856, and Louisa born 1861. Andrew died of his wounds only a few days after the battle had ended, and little is known of his life in general.
